Metalwork And Woodwork Skills

Metalworking Activities

Metalwork workshop is one of the most impressive facilities at the Anchor. Properly fitted with the right equipment for working on metals (lathes, welders, drills, etc), the workshop has witnessed the frantic activity of many a budding engineer or mechanic.

Anchor Inters and Seniors work under the vigilant eye and expert advice of two workshop instructors: Jimmy Murray (an expert mechanic and metalwork teacher who has been looking after the activity for years, and has fitted the workshop to a professional standard) and Antoin OhEocha (a renowned artist with an impressive portfolio of metal sculptures and original dynamic structures).

One of the most attractive activities at the workshop is fitting and reconditioning bicycles (mountain-bikes, BMXs, racers).

Woodworking Activities

Woodworking activities in the centres workshop is the centre of activity for many Juniors and Inters on a typical Saturday morning. With the help of two experienced instructors, Anchor members develop their skills and stretch their imagination to create all sorts of structures and implements: towers, castles, bird-cages, shelves, swords and shields that will serve as props for a film about the Vikings, doll-houses, etc.

There is also room and equipment for clay modelling and pottery. So after a few weeks working on timber, members can opt to try out their creativity on clay.

The Anchor’s ethos is based on the teachings of St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. St. Josemaría was canonised by Pope John Paull II in 2002.
