The purpose of the Centre is to complement the education given at home and school. The programme of activities is designed to foster the cultural, sporting, and all-round personality development of those who take part.
It is run by qualified and experienced youth leaders who help the members improve their study habits, and develop their intellectual, manual and sporting skills, while presenting the Christian virtues in an informal and attractive way. To achieve these aims, each member is assigned one of the leaders as his personal tutor who encourages him on a regular basis and helps him develop to his full potential. Some of the current leaders are: John Keogh, Stephen Doorly, Jimmy Murray, Luison Lassala, Gary Crawford, Rafa Guzman.
The Anchor was set up in 1966 by a group of local parents and young people. In 1986 it moved from its original location, a detached house on the Upper Malahide Road, to its current ample premises on the upper floor of a refurbished office building at Mornington Park, Malahide Road.
The Club relies on the involvement and commitment of parents. Their cooperation and sense of a shared purpose with the leaders is what makes it successful. Activities such as bar-b-ques, outings, hikes, receptions and parenting courses are organised regularly for parents and families to facilitate their involvement.
